Looking for the Magic Potion?

I was messaging back and forth with a dear friend yesterday. She is facing a series of life-challenges and the stress is starting to affect her health. We started joking about a “magic potion” to solve her health concerns. She said that if I created one, she’d be happy to by my guinea pig.

We joked about this, but sometimes I feel like that’s what people really want. Our “healthcare” system has us all trained. When we don’t feel well we go to the doctor and he or she prescribes something to relieve our symptoms. We feel better and go on our merry way.

The problem with much of our modern pharmaceuticals is that they don’t actually cure anything. They just mask symptoms. They underlying imbalance in our body remains, so old problems worsen and new problems develop.

I have a friend who was having severe, prolonged digestive issues…..the kind that make you want to be close to a bathroom at all times. I offered to take him on as a client because I knew that I could help. Just hearing his symptoms and knowing him pretty well, I had some idea of what might be out of balance in his body. But he didn’t want to put in the effort to get better. So he refused the nutritional therapy and went to doctor after doctor, trying to find the magic potion.

I actually don’t want a magic potion to fix my health concerns. And that’s not what I want for my clients either. I know… it would be easier. Figuring out what is out of balance in our bodies and then taking time and making effort to correct it is hard work. It seems much easier to just take a pill.

What if I could develop a magic potion? Would I? I don’t think so. Yes, it would be easier. But if I had been given a magic potion instead of walking my own health journey, I would have missed out on so much. I have learned a ton about my body - what works for it and what doesn’t. I’m in touch with myself in a brand new way because I have taken the time to listen. And as I have worked to improve my health using nutrition and lifestyle I am feeling genuinely better, and I know it it’s real. I didn’t just put a mask on my symptoms.

So, Authentic Sustenance will not be creating a line of magic potions. But I am here. I’m here to educate anyone who wants to take the time to read these posts. I’m here to work with clients who are ready to take responsibility for their own health. And I’m here to support others who are involved in this very important work.
